UPPER NORTH ISLAND COACHING CONFERENCE 20-21 April

A fantastic new coach development collaboration with some of our closer districts Squash Bay of Plenty, Squash Auckland and Squash Northland for 2024. Open to all coaches who are interested in coming together in the Mount for a day or two (you can attend either or both days) to learn and share ideas with fellow coaches.

Day 1 is aimed at coaches and junior convenors who are working with beginner players through to C/D grade players. The day will be split between a range of workshops both on and off court.

Day 2 is aimed at coaches working with higher graded players (C grade and above) or players aiming to be involved with the performance pathway. We will be observing a BOP Performance Squad and discussing a range of topics that are linked to working with performance players.

It would be great to have as many Waikato coaches involved with this - carpooling options may be available.

If you want to register or have any further questions, please contact Emma at development@squashwaikato.co.nz

Registrations close Monday 15th April

RACKETBALL UPDATE

March has seen a few rackets dusted off and the running on the 1st ever Racketball doubles event. A hardy bunch of RB enthusiasts contested 2 divisions of doubles which is unique in that RB doubles consists of alternative hits. Plenty of strategy involved and of course lots of engagement. No injuries incurred – definitely a bonus! The prize winners (Colin Hattingh and Garth Little John – Division 1 and Grant Meredith and Ken Louie – Division 2) gladly accepting their prize pack of a tube of deep heat / Ibuprofen and sport fluids for their recovery!

April will see the running of the 2nd annual Waikato Open, which will be held at the Hamilton Squash and Tennis Club on the 20th of April. We hope to grow the field from the 1st year – with indications the Out of towners (Auckland and BOP) are heading over for the event. The event caters for all abilities from beginner to advanced and is a fun day. See poster below.

In May, Morrinsville will host a Regional Tri-angular event between Auckland / BOP and Waikato. Teams (mixed) of 12 players will contest the ‘Blue Balls Challenge’ currently held by the BOP.

Lastly, keep an eye on new interclub formats for Racketball, starting in May.  If you are interested in registering or getting involved in Racketball, then email racketballwaikato@gmail.com.
