Due to increasing financial pressure, prior to Christmas Squash Waikato re-structured. This involved the combining of the squash development and coaching roles. Our plan is that by combining these roles Squash Waikato will be able to work more efficiently and effectively with clubs, schools and the community to grow our game at all levels. In 2012 we intend to have a strong focus on supporting clubs to increase and maintain memberships, provide club coaches with support and development opportunities as well as working to promote squash in schools and develop our Waikato players.
The new role, which will continue to have a close association with Sport Waikato is titled SportsForce Squash Development and Coaching Co-ordinator, and we are pleased to advise that Lindsey Walters will be employed in this role. We are extremely appreciative of all the work Sharon Hema has done in the development role over the past three years and wish her all the best as she seeks a new challenge.
We are currently working through the induction process of the new role and will advise the squash community of more details, up-coming training events and development opportunities for coaches as soon as we have them organised.
We look forward to working with you in 2012!!!

District nominations are being asked for the Under 11 and 13 Talent Development Centre 2012 (Northern) which will be run in the Waikato.
There will be three Talent Development Centres (TDC) around the country in 2012, one will be in Palmerston North at SquashGym (lower North Island), one held by Squash Canterbury in Christchurch (South Island) and the third in Waikato (upper North Island).
The objective of the TDC’s is to cater for the leading Under 11 and 13 players. The Northern TDC will cover the surrounding districts in the upper North Island (Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay of Plenty).
The programme will consist of three weekend camps over the course of the season and is endorsed by Squash New Zealand as recognised as being a key part of the player pathway from District to National level. In order for the players to be introduced early to the themes being delivered at National Squad, Paul Hornsby (NZ National Coach) will provide support to the coaches delivering the three camps.
The three weekend camps will be run on the same dates as the National Development Squad:11 – 12 Feb5 – 6 May15 – 16 September Players will need to contribute $50 per weekend camp. Venues to be confirmed.
In the first instance nominations are being called for from players who are under 13 on the 1/1/2012, who are committed and have the parental support to attend the three camps in the Waikato on the above dates. A maximum of 20 players, boys and girls will be selected.
If you wish to be nominated please emailLindsey@squashwaikato.co.nz before 18th January 2012.

Does your Club have a tournament in the next few months?
If so, get your tournament poster emailed to karina@squashwaikato.co.nz ASAP so that we can begin promoting it on our website.
The earlier you get the information on the website the better. Some people like to enter their tournaments for the season in advance.
