Remuera and North Shore win titles in Napier

Remuera and North Shore have been crowned champions at the 2010 National Club Team Championships in Napier.

Remuera has taken out the men's Cousins Shield competition, beating defending champions Squash Gym Palmerston North 3-1 in the title decider.

Phil Buscke got Remuera off to a winning start with a 3-0 win over Kent Darlington in the opening match, but it was soon one-all with Ant McLeod bouncing back from a game down to beat Matt Anderson 3-1.

Former world number 36 Kashif Shuja reinstated Remuera's lead with a 3-1 win over Josh Greenfield, leaving Mike McSherry having to beat Alex Grayson to keep Palmerston North's title hopes alive. However, Grayson proved too good for the veteran McSherry, winning 3-0 to secure victory for his side.

The women's Mitchell Cup was an even tighter affair, with North Shore winning the title on a count back against Mitchell Park.

Lisa Cowlard won the opening match against Mikayla Kerr 3-0 to give North Shore the early lead, and Mandy Kennedy made it 2-0 with a 3-1 victory over Nicky Durling.

Tamsyn Leevey then pulled one back for Mitchell Park with a 3-0 victory over Rachel McLeod, leaving Rebecca Barnett needing to beat Trina Moore for any chance of victory. Barnett obliged, but her 3-2 win was not enough to prevent North Shore taking the title 8 games to 7 on a count back.

    WEEKLY GROUP MORNING TRAINING SESSIONS

Starting in Term 3 (week of 19th July) we will be continuing to run the weekly group morning training sessions. These are available to all junior players involved in the 2010 District squad programme.

To cater for all players we will be running these morning sessions at Hamilton, Cambridge and Matamata Clubs. These sessions will be run in term time and be held in the morning before school starts.

As this is additional training is will incur a small cost to cover the Coaches and this will need to be paid to the Coach at the start of the term. The cost for Term 3 is $50.00.

The sessions will involve mainly on court hitting with some fitness work.

The sessions will start the week of the 19th July on the following days, times and venues:

    Tuesday’s – 7am to 8am at Cambridge
    Wednesday’s – 7am to 8am at Hamilton
    Wednesday’s – 7am to 8am at Matamata

In order for these sessions to take place we need to know numbers, therefore please can you let me know if you are keen to attend and whether you will be attending the Cambridge, Hamilton or Matamata session. You can email me on lindsey@squashwaikato.co.nz or phone me on (m) 0275 545014.

If you want to improve your game and enjoy working in a group these sessions are ideal for you.
